John Wilson, Sales Managermore_vertclose

John Wilson joined I‘Anson as Sales Manager in 2016 after a 12-year spell in the pharmaceutical industry with Novartis Animal Health. At Novartis, John spent the majority of his time working as Agricultural Development Manager.

A typical day for John sees him visiting our many customers nationwide, offering technical support to those selling our coarse rations and pelleted products, as well as looking at new ways to expand existing business. For John, the most rewarding part of the job is working in a small, dedicated team and for a family business with a management team that know and understand the industry and are involved in day-to-day operations.

Coming from a farming background, John runs his own farm with his wife Janet, on which they have a flock of commercial ewes and a small herd of pedigree Beef Shorthorn cattle.

Outside of work, John enjoys showing his Mule Sheep and building up his herd of Beef Shorthorn cattle. If time allows, he enjoys seasonal shooting and walking the family’s five miniature Wire Haired Dachshunds.

Barry Shield joined I’Anson in 1986 and works as a Technical Sales Representative.

He has extensive experience in animal nutrition and has completed a number of specialist courses on feeding dairy cattle, rationing for dairy, beef and sheep, as well as feeding for profit.

Barry is also trained in the latest feed software, which enables him to accurately calculate nutritionally complete rations to suit his customers’ requirements.

A typical day for Barry involves looking after his existing customers, attending to queries, ensuring things run smoothly and developing relationships with new customers. The most rewarding parts of his job, he says, are building trust with farmers and the confidence that the company has in his abilities.

He also thinks that being committed, self-disciplined and trustworthy helps him to succeed in his role. Animals are also a big part of Barry’s life outside of his work and one of his favourite pastimes is visiting sea bird colonies.

When he isn’t outside observing and recording wildlife, Barry enjoys spending time developing properties with his family and playing tennis.

Matthew Sharpe joined I’Anson in 1996 and apart from a brief spell working on a farm has worked for I’Anson the majority of his career. Matthew comes from a farming background and has his own farm with herds of milking sheep and commercial sheep. He also grows beef cattle.

A normal day for Matthew involves visiting customers to help them with their day-to-day problems by silage sampling, inspecting livestock and looking at levels of performance. Matthew says that it is always easier to help the customer if you can view the animals. This is then backed up by formulating rations to meet the requirements of both the animals and the farmer. Solving customer problems is the most rewarding part of the job in an environment of change in an ever increasing challenging market.

Outside of work Matthew’s hobbies include running his own farm and watching and playing sport.

Mark Nicholson joined I’Anson in 2006. He has a degree in Agricultural Resource Management, a National Diploma in Agriculture and is a certified cattle foot trimmer and artificial inseminator. Mark has also completed courses on the safe use of veterinary medicines and forklift truck operation. His passion for dairy stems from being born and raised on a dairy farm, and is still involved in the day-to-day running of the family farm.

A normal day for Mark consists of silage sampling, inspecting dairy herds and reviewing data from fertility, dairy costings and milk reports to help farmers with their day-to-day challenges. He also regularly meets with vets and other advisors, formulates rations and discusses potential health issues of livestock.

Mark puts his success down to being brought up with cattle and working with them on a daily basis as this gives him a unique understanding of the industry so he can advise and help customers to attempt and achieve the desired output from their livestock. He believes that I’Anson’s approach to its clients and the attention it pays to developing individually tailored products makes it stand out from others.

Outside of work, Mark spends time with his family and his hobbies include sporting clay pigeon shooting in the summer, game shooting in the winter and working with his gun dogs.
